Cheap Renaissance Costume Ideas
So have you been hanging around waiting for the next installment of cheap costume ideas? I've got some great ideas for this years Renaissance Fair. But here is the place to go if you're more interested in beautiful medieval renaissance costumes.
The Renaissance fair is just around the corner and wouldn't it be fun to dress as a period character during that time?
For those of you that haven't been to a Renaissance fair, go! They are so much fun. All the staff is in period costume. Mostly tavern wenches, but a few noblemen and women (this is especially fun for the kids to see). They have food from the period, giant turkey legs mmmmm!!, and crafts which are made by vendors. One vendor, who I hope I find again, makes these little fairies out of clay. So gorgeous and delicate. Unfortunately I could only afford 1 a year so I have a total of 3. They have lots of great jewelry vendors with bangles and ankle bracelets. You can buy period costumes there as well , but they're quite expensive. Worth it if you go back to the faire every year.

One of the most fun things they have at the Renaissance fair is the jousting tournaments and Swordsmanship Tournaments. Sometimes these are staff members, but sometimes they are people who have trained in the different areas. Everything is as authentic as possible during these, I mean they can't actually use a lot of the same equipment from the period, but its still pretty close. They usually have a king and queen presiding over the tournaments and hold one about every 4 hours or so. Its been a while since I've been to one.
So back to the costumes. The noblemen and women of the period wore lots of silks, satins and velvets. The peasants wore big blousy shirts with wide belts. Usually their clothing was made of wool.
I mean seriously how cool was Lady Guenivere and Sir Lancelot?
Tavern wenches were great too. There are a lot of sexy adult costumes for a tavern wench. Truthfully I always thought the tavern wenches that we base costumes from were ladies of the evening, so to speak oO.
Still not sure anything is cuter than a kid running around as a little Maid Marion or Sir Lancelot with the whole sword and shebang thing going on!
There are a lot of sites that make authentic looking Renaissance costumes for the Renaissance faire, however, they can cost like 300 bucks and that my friends.. aint cheap! And I'm all about cheap costumes here!
You can find lots of cheap renaissance costumes at Amazon.com. I've listed a few here! Cheaper is better. I always say!

Cheap Costumes|Homemade Costumes
The last time I went to a costume party it cost me nearly a hundred dollars. I wore the same costume the following two Halloweens because it was impossible to find any cheap costumes near my house. Of course that was nearly 15 years ago when the Internet didn't have a prolific amount of information. Now, if I want to get a costume, I can hop online and type "cheap costumes" into the search engine and blammo I have hundreds of different shops and styles. Even with the hundreds of costume shops on the Internet, I've recently chosen to make my costumes at home. By making your costumes at home you can save money, use unique costume ideas and throw away less.
You can save money with homemade cheap costumes by reusing household items or items you find in nature. -
Tip: For green friendly adhesive try honey!
An old pillow or pet bed can be used to stuff parts of your clothing for larger breasts, to make you look fatter or use the stuffing inside a pillow to make beards, mustaches and grey hair.
Old coffee grounds - can be applied to your face for stubble. Use to color your skin. Dye fabric.
Old sheets - Use old sheets for the old standby a ghost costume. Tear the sheets into strips and use green food coloring to make a grass skirt or yellow to make a hay colored grass skirt. Make an apron for a housewife costume.
Feather beds and feather pillows - add honey to your body and stick feathers all over and you're a bird.
Makeup - red lipstick for blood. Mascara can turn your hair black. White powder can make your hair look spooky.
Thread - Make spiderwebs using thread and sticks.
Pet hair or human hair - cut a little hair or brush the cat and you have mustaches. The more hair you save the more things you can do with it!
Leaves and branches - you can make yourself into a tree using branches from outside and gluing them to an old jacket.
Just by looking around your house you can find hundreds of costumes which cost nearly nothing to put together. If you're not adverse to working even harder on your homemade costume you can find costume ideas which are also good for the environment.
Politicians are great to model costumes after. Its easy to base a homemade costume on someone who wears a suit and maybe has grey hair. Learn to model a few of their gestures and its even easier and , in my opinion, funnier!
Some well known celebrities can easily be modeled using homemade materials. A white shirt and pants with colored macaroni can be a passable Elvis outfit. A man's suit on a woman and voila you have Ellen DeGeneres.
While most of the ideas I have are not spectacular, there are some very spectacular homemade costumes which you can think up!
When searching for cheap costumes look no further than your closet or pantry!
Cheap Costumes – About Us
Welcome to my web page where I devote my search to finding cheap costumes, homemade costumes and unique costume ideas.
Costume parties and Halloween don't come around very often, but you still want to have a unique costume. Something pretty or feminine or maybe something handsome and manly, and you don't want to pay an arm and a leg.
Costume finding is my hobby. Some people play WoW (yes I do that too), some people play poker, or hike, I think up costume ideas or shop for costumes online and in the neighboord. I've come up with some unique homemade costumes and I've even created a sister site for finding sexy adult costumes online.
Not everyone can like my homemade costume ideas, but I think a few people will come away with some good ideas. I don't only think up homemade costumes, though. I also find costumes on the internet and at shops near my house. I won't share the ones near my house (I'm probably too far for that), but every costume idea I have I will make the information available here.
I hope you find what you're looking for, and keep coming back, because I will have more cheap costume ideas.
