Indian Costumes – P.C ?
I'm going to review and show some great Indian costumes from the web. As a woman of Indian decent (feathers, not dots (haha I love to say that)), I have to say that maybe my people have a little too much political correctness. I don't find things like Indian mascots, Football, baseball, basketball or any other ball using Indian names, offensive. If my people just sat back a moment and thought about why they use those terms, they'd realize it's kind of a compliment. After all, with the watered down version of our tribes and lineages, anything that embraces our culture should be cherished. Do I mean that every term that has "Indian" in it isn't offensive? No. Stop using the term Indian giver. Now THAT is offensive. But an Indian costume? Sexy, regular or stereotypical, it really doesn't matter, in my opinion. I think that anyone that chooses to wear an Indian costume pays homage our people. Is it a little cheesy? Sure. So, the heck, what.
I can take a little cheesy. Don't we use cheesy costumes to idolize our favorite people? Who really liked Elvis in that jumpsuit? Anyone? I doubt it. He looked like a giant white bratwurst with black mold growing out the top. I still love it when people wear that costume. And I still love Elvis just as much. You know why, at 39, I can adore Elvis? Because people wearing his costumes have brought him to life for me. Every time I see that costume, I know who it is and I'm reminded of him again. It's no different for culture costumes. And I love them all. From Indian to Italian Renaissance costumes to movie costumes.
If you're thinking about wearing Indian Costumes, I've put together a few ideas which I think are funny, fun, cheesy and great.
First here are some available on EBay.com. I like Ebay because it puts a lot of vendors together in one spot competing on one page. It also gives you a chance to bid on auctions. That means you get to choose exactly how much you're willing to pay for any costume. And since Halloween comes once a year, paying a lot for a costume isn't something many of us want to do. So here are some cheap Indian costumes available on Ebay. You can scroll further down for my choices on Amazon.com.

Along with EBay I have a special affinity for Amazon.com. Amazon, like EBay, has a wide array of products that give the shopper an instant view of prices from all different merchants. What I like about Amazon, more than EBay, is that they offer free shipping on a lot of their products. When you spend a few hundred dollars on anything and you get free shipping, you're not surprised, When you spend thirty bucks on an item, it's probably a surprise to get free shipping.
This little girls Indian costume is very cute and is a fairly accuaret representation of the typical Indian girl from the past. Although it doesn't represent all Indian tribes, you'll find a fair number of tribes dressed and used the skins of their kills (which is why most of the costumes look like brown leather =)).
The costume has seven 5 star reviews on Amazon.com, which is why it's listed first. A great buy and, according to customers, a great costume. It comes with the headband, but not free shipping =(.
===========================================================================
This is the same costume, only in boys form. The only reason it doesn't get the full five stars, is one of the customer's ordered the wrong size without contacting the seller (as the seller requests). It's always really important to read size charts, and if the seller says contact them regarding the size, it's usually because the sizing is complicated. Be sure to contact the seller if you're unsure about the size.
============================================================================
This is one of the best sellers for adult Indian costumes on Amazon.com. It costs about $25 and comes in regular sizing up to 16. It is definitely one of those costumes you'll want to check with the merchant on sizing. As it reads 14/16 which means all the sizes work like that (6/8, 10/12 etc). Those are pretty broad ranges. I'd check the hip sizes specifically with the merchant.
=========================================================================
Although I don't think this is the most fantastic costume, it is one of the only full adult Indian costumes for men. =/ At $26.99 it's fairly cheap too, which is a bonus. And it's Zoogster costumes that's selling it, I always like their stuff.
Anyway I hope you feel comfortable wearing an Indian costume again, despite some p.c. concerns =). Happy Halloween guys and gals!

Wolverine Costume and Star Trek Costume – Thats Whats Hot
With the release of the Wolverine movie, there's a surge of costume searches for these characters. Don't be left in the dust this Halloween when you pick your costume.
The Wolverine costume is available in many styles. The character from the comic book and animated series always wore a yellow lycra-looking suit with black boots. This is the most common costume available. However the movie version looks very little like the animated version.
How to make your own Wolverine Costume This year its easy to make your own Wolverine costume, if you're prepared properly. Buy a safe for skin adhesive (usually at a craft store) and a used wig. You'll need a picture of Wolverine (see below) to customize the wig to his hairstyle. Additionally you'll need a second wig to use as facial hair, heavy sideburns.
Cut long strips of pointed claws from cardboard and cover in aluminum. Each piece of the claws needs to be adhered to the inside of your fingers using the adhesive. It's wise to use small soft hairbands to keep them in place as well. You can cover the hairbands in colored spray paint to match your skin color. That is truly a cheap costume, but if you want more cheap costumes for Wolverine which look a lot better check below.

Plus Size Halloween Costume|Where to Buy A Plus Size Halloween Costume
There is a plus size Halloween costume for you! Being a big girl doesn't preclude a person from getting to wear fun and sexy clothes. The average American is plus sized, 60% in fact, if you trust the research. With 60% of Americans and nearly that many Brits, there is a rise in the production of costumes and clothing for plus sized people.
Today I was shopping on Amazon, as I do everyday (much to my husband's chagrin), and I started to peruse their costume lines. I find that Amazon has an amazing array of costumes. The costumes sold through Amazon all work through other companies and oftentimes are cheaper than the company's own website or store. So I find it a perfect place to get cheap costumes. And, since I order a certain amount, the shipping is free. Win-win in my opinion. But I digress. So I was shopping on Amazon when I began to wonder about plus size Halloween Costumes, and I wondered if they were similar to the regular sized costumes. It seemed only fair to me that there should be representations of every size, just like in real life. Turns out that there are nearly 100% exactly the same costumes on both sides.
If you want to dress up in a plus size Snow White costume, there are two different types available, both in the Disney animation style. The first one is the typical Snow White costume, long yellow skirt, snug bodice, puffy sleeves. The second style, more of a sexy Snow White, has a short yellow skirt which flares out a little bit. The pictures show it with petticoats, but those are sold separately, as are the thigh highs. Pretty cute costumes all in all. And really cheap costumes too!
I looked up the Red Riding Hood and found some different styles which were adorable and sexy. One with a flouncy little skirt, which also needs petticoats bought separately, and probably some cute little black Mary Jane shoes. I love the checkered skirts for this costume.

Cheap Renaissance Costume Ideas
So have you been hanging around waiting for the next installment of cheap costume ideas? I've got some great ideas for this years Renaissance Fair. But here is the place to go if you're more interested in beautiful medieval renaissance costumes.
The Renaissance fair is just around the corner and wouldn't it be fun to dress as a period character during that time?
For those of you that haven't been to a Renaissance fair, go! They are so much fun. All the staff is in period costume. Mostly tavern wenches, but a few noblemen and women (this is especially fun for the kids to see). They have food from the period, giant turkey legs mmmmm!!, and crafts which are made by vendors. One vendor, who I hope I find again, makes these little fairies out of clay. So gorgeous and delicate. Unfortunately I could only afford 1 a year so I have a total of 3. They have lots of great jewelry vendors with bangles and ankle bracelets. You can buy period costumes there as well , but they're quite expensive. Worth it if you go back to the faire every year.

One of the most fun things they have at the Renaissance fair is the jousting tournaments and Swordsmanship Tournaments. Sometimes these are staff members, but sometimes they are people who have trained in the different areas. Everything is as authentic as possible during these, I mean they can't actually use a lot of the same equipment from the period, but its still pretty close. They usually have a king and queen presiding over the tournaments and hold one about every 4 hours or so. Its been a while since I've been to one.
So back to the costumes. The noblemen and women of the period wore lots of silks, satins and velvets. The peasants wore big blousy shirts with wide belts. Usually their clothing was made of wool.
I mean seriously how cool was Lady Guenivere and Sir Lancelot?
Tavern wenches were great too. There are a lot of sexy adult costumes for a tavern wench. Truthfully I always thought the tavern wenches that we base costumes from were ladies of the evening, so to speak oO.
Still not sure anything is cuter than a kid running around as a little Maid Marion or Sir Lancelot with the whole sword and shebang thing going on!
There are a lot of sites that make authentic looking Renaissance costumes for the Renaissance faire, however, they can cost like 300 bucks and that my friends.. aint cheap! And I'm all about cheap costumes here!
You can find lots of cheap renaissance costumes at Amazon.com. I've listed a few here! Cheaper is better. I always say!
Dance Costumes Cheap
Making a dance costume is one of the cheapest costumes for any occasions.
Here are 5 cheap dance costume ideas you can make by hand:
Note these are not for state presentations:
1. Tap dancer - Supplies: Nylons, A mans dress shirt, a pair of sturdy shorts, tie, bowler hat, suspenders - A white shirt is dyeable and should dyed to match the shorts and tucked into the shorts, when worn. Remove the sleeves for a cooler effect. Add glitter or fabric paint to the tie, if you want.
2. A Chorus line Dancer - Supplies: Gold leotard, tuxedo jacket with tails (can find at thrift/used stores), glitter, medium wide belt, cane, top hat, gold spray paint, glue - use the gold spraypaint to color the jacket and top hat. Be sure not to use too much paint as the jacket willb e too stiff to wear. Use the glitter on the lapels and cuffs, and band of the top hat, if there are any. Lay a light coating of clue on the belt and cover in glitter.
3. Ballerina 1 - Child - Supplies: tulle, leotard, tights, glitter or beading - Leotards are notoriously easy to sew things onto. Sew the tulle in a tight band around the middle of the leotard. Start have an inch above the bottom line of leg opening and sew a total of three bands close togehter working upwards. Each band should be no more than 1-2 millimeters apart from eachother. Add more bands for thickness as desired.
4. Ballerina 2 - Adult - Supplies : leotard, tights, tullel ribbon - Easily put together a ballerina dress by gathering the ends of tulle together with ribbon through a thick needle. The tulle can be layered for thicker dance skirts. The belt is the ribbon which is already sewn into the tulle.
5. Belly Dancer - Supplies - large gold round coin sequins (hobby/craft store), heavy duty swimsuit bikini bottoms, different colored nylon sheer fabric (curtain fabric works ), Sheer handkerchiefs /or smaller bolts of fabric Heavy duty bra, beading, - One to two large pieces of fabric should be sewn into the top of the bikini bottoms front area. Do the same with the back. Sew the gold coin sequins over the fabric around the belt area of the bikini bottoms. Save extra sequins for the bra. Gold coins and handkerchiefs can be sewn around the cup of the bra. Tip: its best to use black for both bikini bottoms and bra.
I hope these costume ideas help with your next party, fantasy or Halloween!
If you'd like to invest in a costume you can visit your local dance studio for costumes. A mix and match of different dance costumes from the studios will be interchangeable over the years.
Cheap Costumes|Homemade Costumes
The last time I went to a costume party it cost me nearly a hundred dollars. I wore the same costume the following two Halloweens because it was impossible to find any cheap costumes near my house. Of course that was nearly 15 years ago when the Internet didn't have a prolific amount of information. Now, if I want to get a costume, I can hop online and type "cheap costumes" into the search engine and blammo I have hundreds of different shops and styles. Even with the hundreds of costume shops on the Internet, I've recently chosen to make my costumes at home. By making your costumes at home you can save money, use unique costume ideas and throw away less.
You can save money with homemade cheap costumes by reusing household items or items you find in nature. -
Tip: For green friendly adhesive try honey!
An old pillow or pet bed can be used to stuff parts of your clothing for larger breasts, to make you look fatter or use the stuffing inside a pillow to make beards, mustaches and grey hair.
Old coffee grounds - can be applied to your face for stubble. Use to color your skin. Dye fabric.
Old sheets - Use old sheets for the old standby a ghost costume. Tear the sheets into strips and use green food coloring to make a grass skirt or yellow to make a hay colored grass skirt. Make an apron for a housewife costume.
Feather beds and feather pillows - add honey to your body and stick feathers all over and you're a bird.
Makeup - red lipstick for blood. Mascara can turn your hair black. White powder can make your hair look spooky.
Thread - Make spiderwebs using thread and sticks.
Pet hair or human hair - cut a little hair or brush the cat and you have mustaches. The more hair you save the more things you can do with it!
Leaves and branches - you can make yourself into a tree using branches from outside and gluing them to an old jacket.
Just by looking around your house you can find hundreds of costumes which cost nearly nothing to put together. If you're not adverse to working even harder on your homemade costume you can find costume ideas which are also good for the environment.
Politicians are great to model costumes after. Its easy to base a homemade costume on someone who wears a suit and maybe has grey hair. Learn to model a few of their gestures and its even easier and , in my opinion, funnier!
Some well known celebrities can easily be modeled using homemade materials. A white shirt and pants with colored macaroni can be a passable Elvis outfit. A man's suit on a woman and voila you have Ellen DeGeneres.
While most of the ideas I have are not spectacular, there are some very spectacular homemade costumes which you can think up!
When searching for cheap costumes look no further than your closet or pantry!
